Run Report
A reasonable turnout of 19 despite the heat, including visitor Bolton Bollocks and the return of Fun Size bringing his friend Tyrese.
In the absence of Nettles, hashers competed for worst parking awards in an otherwise empty and spacious carpark, Machinist starting the trend of taking up two spaces with the smallest car possible, trumped by D’Head managing a full four spaces!
Thermal Dick and Kelinchi confused us by turning up early. Usual briefing stuff, we were told it was all in flour, and all one-blob checks. The re-groups were apparently optional (no, essential in this heat!), only there to indicate opportunities for shortcutting.
We set out and FRBs immediately c*cked up by examining what was actually paint on the pavement, before picking up trail past the station. We immediately found the hare had been very efficient – blobs the size of teaspoons, checks the size of saucers – one check was evidently re-drawn because it was too small to put one blob in the middle. Up and down steps and alleyways on the south side of town, several checks confused and helped keep the pack together, before we headed down to the first regroup near the Butts.
As we waited for Silvier and Nutcracker to catch us up, they confused us by starting to check out before they’d even reached us. It proved tricky to find the trail from there, Bolshie finally picking the right way northwards to explore even more of the new housing developments. Crossing the main road we gladly avoided going uphill again, finding a long path towards the second regroup. JGG got left behind going back to the previous check to call Kelinchi, then finding her approach the regroup from the opposite direction, having already spotted the on trail from there. A meander through the flood meadows eventually brought us to the centre of town and a long, long On In, where we found some walkers but three missing, and no hare.
RA started the circle anyway, and the others eventually turned up for the end.
Down Downs
Flying Doctor: Hare, bijou trail setting
Nutcracker: Stating the bleeding obvious ‘it could be anyway from here’ standing at a check
JGG: ‘Bear Hunt’, going around the trail rather than through it or over it
OT: Hashy Birthday.
On Inn - The Railway Inn
Usual great ales.....probably (ed.)
Some Comments:
Ever Ready: Lovely walk but a bit cold in places
Hanging About: Trails familiar but Alton keeps changing
JGG: Very varied for 1 blob checks, well done.
Flying Doctor: Hot, Hot, Hot, good beer
